Carolyn's Cremation

The funeral service was held at the Surrey and Sussex Crematorium in Crawley West Sussex

Due to Covid-19 only myself and my daughters Carly and Julia (and Julia's 3 month old son Rory) were able to attend the crematorium - and then only for 10 minutes. My 3 year old granddaughter Phoebe stayed at home with her Dad, Luke.

We sat in silent contemplation for 10 minutes and played "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Grobin on a mobile phone sitting 2 metres apart, all very strange and upsetting. The song was one of Carolyn's favourites and seemed very fitting as she "raised up" so many people up over the years.

We then bent the Government's rules and went back to Julia's house for lunch, played in the garden with Phoebe and toasted Carolyn with water (as most of you will know that was all she drank for the last 5 years or so of her life).

Not what any of us wanted, but hopefully we will have a memorial in Surrey after all the lockdown restrictions are lifted, whenever that might be! When this happens we will invite all that would like to attend.

Thanks, Gary

Carolyn didn't want any flowers at the funeral and instead hoped her family and friends would donate to Princess Alice Hospice who had cared for her so wonderfully. You can do so via this Tribute page if you want to.
